Saint Alexis choir

St. Alexis has a small but dedicated choir.  We meet most every Wednesday evening from around 7:30-8:15 PM and practice the various Troparia and Kontakia (hymns) for that coming Sunday; they are sung using different styles of chant.  We mostly sing the obikod tones, however we are beginning to learn more of the

Carpathian chant as well, as is the custom in our Diocese.  We also use Greek Chant and, on occasion, Byzantine Chant. 

Here at Saint Alexis, we encourage congregational singing during the Liturgy and have been very successful at that! Our purpose for having a choir is not for "performing" for the congregation, but rather to assist them in singing the liturgy. Therefore, we meet for rehearsing in order that we can help create a smooth, flowing liturgy.    We do believe it's important that we choose music that will be easy for the congregation to sing along with.
